I was fortunate enough to catch the kids from Hope Academy doing their full 10-member set at the Three Rivers Arts Festival the evening before we filmed this video. I wish that we could have squished all ten of them into the trailer for this video, but I'm grateful to work with any fraction of this incredibly talented group of kids. In fact, we're planning to spend a day onsite with the band to film and record as much material as we can.
This song was written by the young lady singing lead (all of the students receive ukulele lessons!). In between takes, the 10 year-old drummer was singing songs by Bruno Mars and Simple Minds. Everything about this experience makes me feel hopeful and makes me think that there really couldn't be a better name for this organization. If you are similarly moved and the donating type, please consider hopping over to their site and making a contribution. They sure could use your help: http://cathedralofhope.org/donate/
The two young ladies on the right are singing into Peluso Microphone Lab's P-12, the two on the left are using their 2247 se. Both ukuleles are captured with P-84 small valve condensers. The cajon was captured by all four! Special thanks to Peluso, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and all our sponsors for making this moment possible.
